I purchased this to link two switches together. This cable is well designed and of a good quality.
Not much to say about a cable, but it works like you'd expect. Three feet is short, but just what you need in some situations (between a router and wireless access point in my case).
Bad news is of course it's too short. You can barely set up a laptop on the same desk. The good news - it works great. If I were you, I'd get at least a 5 foot cable.
It did connect after some tinkering with XP's networking but most of the files were corrupted in the transfer so I ended up having to move the files to a drive on my old PC and then install the drive on the new one. (Note I was using XP 64 on both machines and NTSC file system). I purchased this with a new PC to make moving some files and settings over easy. Don't know if this is trustworthy enough for other uses if you want to network two PCs, it didn't do the job for me.
I don't know how other platforms work, but probably just fine too.Now that I have a 3 foot cord, I am thinking about getting a 40' one and drag it across the room. I have dial up internet, and wireless (as I understand it) requires high speed. Most files is like a blink of an eye. Transfers info about 10 Mb per second - amazing. Ran the Network setup wizard, everything works perfectly. Plugged one end into desktop, the other in laptop. No need for hubs, switches, all that expensive junk. Perfect if you have XP on both machines like me.
